Ideas have always mattered to society.
Today, they matter even more.
About Ideas Matter
The Journey
Ideas matter most when they are understood. When they are understood they are more likely to be embraced.
Ideas Matter is an organization established in 2012 dedicated to belief in the power of ideas and the rights that protect them. It's members and affiliates include innovative businesses of all types and sizes, inventors, content industry creators, individuals, educators, schools and organizations.
Ideas matter brings IP rights and their impact into clearer focus through content such as videos, international events and trend analysis.
Ideas help economies to grow; they are essential to businesses, relevant to society and a window into the future - Ideas really DO matter.
Our Commitment
Ideas Matter is a consortium of cross-sector enterprises, small and medium-sized businesses and trade associations that aims to expand awareness and promote the benefits of intellectual property (IP). We firmly believe that ideas are important to the economy, important to society, important to companies both large and small.
A Basic Awareness
Despite their importance, intellectual property rights- patents, trademarks, trade secrets and copyrights-remain complex and often misunderstood tools. Ideas Matter provides information about local and international IP developments and trends that help to illustrate the role of IP rights, their impact and how they work.
Sharing the IP story of a range of individuals and businesses that have been impacted by IP rights is a good way to get to know why ideas matter and the role IP plays in developing them.
IP Encourages Sharing
IP rights encourage sharing by allowing ideas to be discussed without fear of theft.
Generative AI, large learning models and machine learning have put content in the spotlight. Copyrighted images, sounds and written work are not there for the taking - although the speed and easy access to them sometimes makes it feel like they should be.
IP is highly important global to job creation, economic growth and competitiveness.
"Ideas help economies to grow; they are essential to businesses, relevant to society and a window into the future - Ideas really DO matter."
The world's largest and most entrepreneurial economies have been built on strong IP rights and rule of law, creating cultures of openness and collaboration, which encourage commerce and jobs.
Ideas Matter was established by Philips, Microsoft and other businesses and organizations over a decade ago. Participants have included the Motion Picture Association and Center for Intellectual Property Understanding.
